In San Rafael Las Flores and my House, the Mine does not Pass

Pro-consulta demonstration in San Rafael Las Flores

In a previous article, we featured a piece by James Rodríguez (MiMundo) about the plight of Clodoveo Rodriguez, Don Clodo, whose home had been fenced in by the neighbouring El Escobal silver mine.

James’s latest piece features a demonstration by thousands from San Rafael Las Flores, Santa Rosa, and nearby communities gathered in solidarity to protest the mining project. Locals demanded a consultation, or plebiscite, to be carried out to establish the people’s will regarding the mine. Days before the local mayor removed several members from the Special Commission regarding the Consultation process.

The title refers to the signs held by the protesters above - En San Rafael Las Flores y Mi Casa: La Mina no Pasa.
