Peace Brigades International have organised a visit to London of the Mexican human rights defender Tita Radilla. She is the vice-president of the Mexican Association of Relatives of the Detained, Disappeared and Victims of Human Rights Violations (AFADEM). Her visit will take place in early November, and more details can be found below.

Rosendo Radilla Pacheco, a respected community leader, disappeared in 1974 after being stopped at an army checkpoint in Mexico’s Guerrero state. In July 2009, his became the first case of forced disappearance to be brought against the Mexican Government: the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights is due in December. His daughter, Tita Radilla, vice-president of the Mexican Association of Relatives of the Detained, Disappeared and Victims of Human Rights Violations (AFADEM), will be in London in November to speak about her long fight for justice. We hope you can join us in taking this opportunity to show support for the ongoing struggle for truth and justice in Mexico and hear about the international community’s role in the protection of human rights defenders in Mexico and worldwide.

Tita will be sharing her testimony and her experiences, and participating in discusions at several public events in London, at which there will also be screenings or partial screenings of the film 12.511 - Rosendo Radilla case: An Open Wound from Mexico's Dirty War.

In addition to the events listed below, Tita will participate in an invitation-only event, chaired by former Law Lord, the Rt Hon Lord Bingham of Cornhill KG, on Wednesday, 4 November.

A film screening of 12.511 Rosendo Radilla case: An open wound from Mexico's Dirty War. The film will be followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity to hear from Tita Radilla and PBI’s coordinator in Mexico, Michael Tamblyn. Elizabeth Mistry, a journalist formerly based in Mexico, will chair the event.

Tuesday 3 November - Amnesty International Human Rights Action Centre

A talk with Tita Radilla, Michael Tamblyn, and Rupert Knox, Mexico researcher, Amnesty International. There will also be a performance by a member of Actors for Human Rights, a network of professional actors dedicated to drawing public attention to contemporary human rights concerns. Find out more.
